Church of St Paul & St Margaret (1866)
Town Street, Nidd, N.Yorks, HG3 3BN
10.30 Prayer Book service every Sunday
We have a mystery - can you help?
Unusually, Nidd Church has two patrons - St Paul and St Margaret. When the present church was consecrated in 1868 the legal document shows only St Paul. Where did St Margaret come from?
A possible theory is that in 1907 a CofE home for waifs and strays was opened in Nidd and named St Margaret's Home. The following year a faculty was granted for additional church space (north aisle) perhaps for the residents of the home on Sundays?
We can't find any documents mentioning St Margaret however.
